Australia Hungry for Labor
The Land Down Under is known for it's beautiful weather, sunny beaches, gorgeous women and it's progressive society.
Now, Australia has another great thing on the table. It's hungry for labor. The Australian economy is booming. Growth spurred by it's proximity to China has created a new minerals rush in Australia. It can't mine coal fast enough for China.
This is leading Australia to having a skills shortage. They are so desperate for people that they are now launching a campaign to draw more skilled migrants to the sunny land of Oz.
The Australian Department of immigration recently announced that it was adding an additional 31,000 slots to it's yearly immigration quota.
Australia was one of the first nations to pioneer a points based immigration system. Meaning that prospective migrants are scored on their skills, work experience, education, language skills and more. They earn points and if they earn enough points they can qualify for a work visa to immigrate to Australia.
The program has proved so popular that demand for spaces in Australia has outstripped supply, coupled with the Australian economy's thirst for more labor, the government has decided wisely to raise it's immigration quota.
